UDA Hands Nomination Certificates to By-Election Candidates Ahead of May 14 Mini-Polls

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has intensified its preparations for the upcoming May 14, 2026 by-elections after officially issuing nomination certificates to its candidates in a ceremony held at the UDA's headquarters.

The exercise was presided over by the party’s Secretary General, Hassan Omar Hassan, who rallied support for the party’s flagbearers and expressed confidence in their ability to secure victory.

Those cleared to contest on the UDA ticket include Hon. David Kipsang Keter for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat, Hon. Daniel Lolngojine for Poro Ward in Samburu County, and Hon. Festus Korir Kirop for Endo Ward in Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

While issuing the certificates, Hassan Omar described the candidates as capable leaders with strong grassroots backing, noting that the party had undertaken a rigorous selection process to ensure it fields individuals who resonate with the electorate.

“We have confidence in these candidates to deliver victory,” he said, reaffirming the party’s belief in their leadership and connection with wananchi.

He further emphasized that the by-elections are not only about winning seats but also about strengthening the party’s national development agenda and expanding its political base.

“This exercise is about consolidating our support and ensuring our agenda reaches every part of the country,” he added.

The Secretary General reiterated that UDA remains united and focused on replicating its recent strong performance in by-elections, attributing past successes to effective grassroots mobilization and sustained public trust.

Also addressing the gathering, the Chairperson of the National Elections Board, Anthony Mwaura, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to credible and transparent electoral processes. He highlighted the role of technology in enhancing efficiency, accountability, and integrity in party nominations.

The event brought together several senior party officials, including Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, UDA Executive Director Nicodemus Bore, Deputy Executive Director Higgins Mbugua, Director of Women Affairs Margaret Ndanyi, Director of Membership Grace Gicovi, and Director of Communication Nathaniel Mong’are, alongside members of the National Elections Board.

With the issuance of certificates now complete, campaigns are expected to intensify across the affected regions as UDA seeks to solidify its presence at both parliamentary and county assembly levels.

The upcoming by-elections are widely seen as a key test of the party’s continued political strength and its ability to translate internal cohesion into electoral success at the grassroots.
