Babu Owino Steps Up Bursary Distribution in Tassia as Thousands of Embakasi East Students Benefit

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino today intensified his ongoing bursary distribution drive with a major exercise in Tassia Ward, where hundreds of students and families turned up to receive financial support aimed at keeping learners in school.

The event is part of a broader constituency wide programme that has been moving across different wards, targeting students from vulnerable backgrounds. Today’s Tassia rollout marked another phase of the initiative, with residents gathering in large numbers as bursary cheques were issued directly to beneficiaries.

The bursary programme is being implemented on a non discriminatory basis, with all residents of Embakasi East considered eligible regardless of tribe, race, or religion an approach the legislator says is aimed at ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for every household.

In his address, Owino reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to education, emphasizing that the programme is designed to ensure no student in Embakasi East misses out on schooling due to financial constraints.

“Education is the greatest equalizer, and no child should miss school because of fees. That is why we are bringing these bursaries directly to the people in every ward,” he said.

The legislator highlighted that taking the bursary programme to the grassroots through ward-level distribution enhances accountability and ensures that support reaches those most in need. He noted that the exercise is ongoing, with more areas set to benefit in subsequent phases.

Today’s exercise in Tassia follows similar distributions in other parts of Embakasi East, reinforcing a sustained push to improve school retention and ease the burden on struggling families. The programme has consistently drawn large crowds, reflecting the high demand for education support within the constituency.

Residents who attended the event welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely amid rising economic challenges. Many parents said the bursaries would help secure their children’s return to school and reduce the risk of dropouts.

Owino also used the platform to challenge students to remain focused on their academic journey, terming education as the most reliable path to opportunity and long-term success.

“This bursary is not just financial support it is a foundation for your future and a chance to rise beyond your circumstances,” he added.

The Tassia distribution underscores the MP’s continued emphasis on education as a central pillar of his leadership, with the ongoing bursary rollout expected to reach thousands more learners across Embakasi East in the coming days.
