MAKINI SCHOOLS LAUNCHES CAMBRIDGE PATHWAY AT RUNDA CAMPUS

Makini Schools has officially launched the Cambridge International Curriculum at its Runda Campus, marking a significant milestone in its strategy to expand access to globally recognised education for Kenyan families.

The launch follows the successful acquisition and integration of Regis Academy into the Makini Group of Schools and positions the Runda Campus as a dual-curriculum institution offering both Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum and the internationally recognised Cambridge pathway.

The school said the new model is designed to give parents greater flexibility by allowing them to choose the curriculum that best suits their children’s academic strengths, career aspirations and future ambitions while remaining within the same school community.

Speaking during the launch, Makini Schools General Manager Godfrey Odhiambo said the expansion responds to growing demand from Kenyan families seeking internationally recognised education without compromising the institution’s long-standing values.

“At Makini, our focus is on delivering consistent, high-quality learning experiences across every campus. The introduction of the Cambridge pathway at Runda allows us to respond directly to parent demand for internationally recognised education while maintaining the strong values, discipline and academic rigour that define Makini. Families can now access a globally competitive curriculum within a trusted and established school environment,” he said.

Makini noted that the dual-curriculum model is built on flexibility rather than competition between the two education systems. While each curriculum retains its own academic structure, learners can transition between the CBE and Cambridge pathways through structured assessments that help determine the programme best suited to a child’s abilities, learning style and future goals.

The school said the approach has already proved successful at its Ngong Road Campus, where the Cambridge curriculum was introduced in 2020. Since then, the school has maintained both curricula side by side while recording strong academic performance, including producing Kenya’s top Cambridge IGCSE learner in English and Literature in the 2025 examinations.

Makini Schools Regional Managing Director Horace Mpanza said the launch reflects the institution’s long-term commitment to making world-class education more accessible to Kenyan families.

The school added that the launch of the Cambridge pathway at Runda is intended to broaden educational opportunities for parents while ensuring learners are prepared for success both in Kenya and internationally.

Founded in 1978, Makini Schools currently operates five campuses in Kenya and has been part of the Advtech Group since 2018. The launch at the Runda Campus forms part of the school’s broader strategy to scale access to high-quality, globally competitive education while maintaining consistent academic standards across all its campuses.
